Watch An Exhibit Come To Life!

By Grace Carroll

We talk a lot about “process.” We have a design process and a production process, and together they create the road map for a project. The most exciting part about our process is watching the progress that occurs with each step. We recently completed an install for the Oakwoods Metropark Nature Center along the Huron River in Michigan. The project started back in early 2019, and it has been a lot of fun to watch as the design came to life. In the photos below you can see how the project started out as rough ideas and sketches that became more concrete.

These first sketches were created in March of 2019 at our onsite workshop. Two different concepts were shown to the client, and with feedback, we were able to determine a direction forward. We ended up combining a few of the design elements from each sketch.

After another brainstorm, the ideas became more refined. These two sketches show the design with the ideas combined from the workshop. We keep things in black and white while ideas are still being finalized, so the sketches still have the feeling that they can be easily altered.

Finally, we incorporate color. Taking things from black and white to color gives the sketches a more finished feeling. These sketches are the final visual representation of the exhibit space before it is built.

After design, the process moves into production. Exhibit elements are fabricated and once finished everything is shipped onsite and installed by our team. These images show the finished exhibit. I hope you enjoy comparing the photographs to the sketches, seeing where we started and where we ended up. I know I did!
