Cincinnati, OH—The 31-year-old Cincinnati Sports Club has recently completed the installation of an outdoor multi-purpose, synthetic turf field—the first sports and recreation field in the state of Ohio equipped with T°Cool, a revolutionary evaporative cooling technology that makes fields cooler, safer, and more playable.

This facility enhancement project will provide a multipurpose outside venue for members and guests. The field will accommodate exercise and social events while adhering to all CDC and local/state health guidelines, due to the pandemic. The new 40-yard outdoor synthetic turf field will be used to enhance fitness and social programming, including group fitness/HIIT classes, lawn pickleball, badminton, volleyball, croquet, athletic training, yoga, speed & agility, birthday parties, wine tastings, pop up beer gardens, food trucks, happy hours, and much more.

The integration of T°Cool technology, which was invented by Cincinnati-based engineer Chris Tetrault, was a priority for this project, as synthetic turf surfaces can traditionally get very hot during warm weather months. T°Cool is a proven solution that reduces synthetic turf surface temperatures by 30 to 50 degrees, without compromising the performance benefits. The Cincinnati Sports Club multi-purpose field project was installed by Foreverlawn of Ohio, one of the region’s leading synthetic turf suppliers.

The new synthetic turf field at the Cincinnati Sports Club follows a new trend nationwide—headlined by The Citadel’s historic Johnson Hagood Stadium, the first NCAA Division I Athletic Field in the USA—as usage of T°Cool technology to “Combat the Heat” is surging at high schools, Universities, and recreation facilities in key markets across the country. T°Cool was recently integrated into the first baseball field, at Laramie Park (Skokie Park District) in Skokie, IL, as well as on the first athletic field in the State of Florida, located at Somerset Canyons Academy in Boynton Beach, FL. Moreover, the technology is also now used internationally on five fields on the Caribbean Nation of Saint Lucia, headlined by Soufriere-Stadium - the host venue for International Soccer matches.

“This all-weather, multi-purpose synthetic turf field enables us to expand outdoor programming while adhering to new policies and protocols due to the pandemic,” said Marco Fiorini, Interim General Manager at the Cincinnati Sports Club. “Safety is our top priority, and the integration of T°Cool reinforces our commitment to provide a safe environment for our members and their guests, in all weather conditions.”

T°Cool is an eco-friendly solution that cools synthetic turf surfaces by coating the turf infill. Various materials can be used for infilling synthetic turf, with sand being a time-tested option. Once installed, the T°Cool solution continuously activates through rain, dew, humidity, and/or watering the field, thus reducing the surface temperature. During warm weather months, synthetic turf temperatures can get hot, consistently exceeding 160°, making the fields uncomfortable and often unplayable. The extreme heat on synthetic turf fields is primarily driven by the sun and composition of the synthetic turf fibers. The only proven method for reducing this heat is by treating the infill with a cooling solution, and T°Cool is the only proven synthetic turf cooling solution that cools the entire turf system for sustained periods of time.

“Synthetic turf offers an all-weather alternative to natural grass, and by incorporating a cooling solution, Cincinnati Sports Club will effectively maximize usage of the space, even during warm weather months,” said Chris Tetrault, Inventor of T°Cool.

Today, encompassing athletic fields, playgrounds, dog parks, recreation facilities, and private residences, T°Cool technology is now cooling synthetic turf surfaces in 34 states across the USA. As an added benefit, T°Cool’s evaporative cooling solution for synthetic turf fields also reduces the coefficient of friction, thus diminishing the severity of turf burns, while effectively reducing the growth of harmful bacteria on open wounds.

Locally owned and operated, the Cincinnati Sports Club has been the top lifestyle destination of Cincinnati’s east side community since 1990 with a mission to help members lead an active life, through quality service, personalized care, and constant improvement. Cincinnati Sports Club is a part of the International Health, Racquet, and Sports Club Association. The state-of-the-art facility sprawls across 16 acres and 110,000 square feet of interior space to create Cincinnati’s most robust environment for health, fitness, and social entertainment. The Club is located at 3950 Red Bank Road in Fairfax, Ohio, and is accessible by the main entrance, and also by the 5535 Murray Avenue and 3939 Virginia Avenue entrances.
