ASBA Announces New Programs

They recently launched the “Fundamentals of Pickleball Court Construction” online course and certificate program

The American Sports Builders Association (ASBA), the national organization for builders, design professionals and suppliers of materials for athletic facilities, has announced that in recognition of the growth of pickleball, and the corresponding need for court builders with pickleball facility-specific expertise, it has launched two new continuing education offerings:

“Fundamentals of Pickleball Court Construction” Online Course

To encourage and demonstrate quality construction, ASBA has created the Fundamentals of Pickleball Court Construction course available to anyone wanting to learn more about pickleball court construction.

“Working with a builder who holds this Certificate will give consumers peace of mind that their contractor is knowledgeable in all aspects of building pickleball courts,” notes ASBA’s Courts Division President, Randy Resley. “This program is a great step forward for the Association and will help set higher construction standards in the industry.”

The course includes information on court dimensions and design, building new courts, lines, lighting, ADA compliance, and more.

For individuals who would like to take the course and are not currently a Certified Tennis Court Builder (CTCB), ASBA recommends the Fundamentals of Tennis Court Construction course as a prerequisite, as that course concentrates on the construction of a court. Once completed, the Fundamentals of Pickleball Court Construction course will focus on the differences between the courts, lighting, fencing, and more. Taken together, the two provide an excellent background for builders.

Both the tennis court and pickleball construction courses are FREE to ASBA members and are available to nonmembers for $199 each.

Pickleball Certificate Program for Current Certified Tennis Court Builders

Individuals who are currently Certified Tennis Court Builders (CTCB) can earn this certificate as an addendum to their current certification.

To apply for the certificate, individuals must show three years of experience in all aspects of building pickleball courts and pass the online course exam. Upon successful completion, CTCBs will receive a Certificate and the builder’s name will be listed on the ASBA website as a Certified Builder with a Pickleball Court Builder Certificate.

Builder members receive a discounted price of $400 for the course and certificate. Nonmember pricing is $600.

The ASBA is a non-profit association helping design professionals, builders, suppliers, owners, operators, and users understand quality sports facility construction. The ASBA sponsors informative meetings, publishes newsletters, books, and technical construction guidelines for athletic facilities, and keeps its members aware of the latest developments in the industry. It also offers voluntary certification programs in tennis court, running track, and sports field construction.

Available at no charge is a listing of all publications offered by the Association, as well as the ASBA’s Membership Directory. For information on the ASBA, as well as on its publications, activities, and upcoming meetings, please contact the Association at 2331 Rock Spring Road, Forest Hill, Maryland 21050.
