ASBA Announces In-Person Technical Meeting in Orlando

Forest Hill, MD – The American Sports Builders Association (ASBA), the national organization for builders, designers, and suppliers of materials for athletic facilities, has announced it will present its annual Technical Meeting in person, in Orlando, Florida.

The meeting, which is to take place December 3-6, 2021, will be held at the Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress.

The Technical Meeting, ASBA’s most popular event, includes a rigorous program of sessions focusing on design, construction, and supply trends and concerns in each of the Association’s membership divisions: Courts, Tracks and Sports Fields. There is also a Management track, with information dedicated to business topics.

Among the sessions to be presented this year are the following:

  • Transitioning from a Natural Grass Field to a Synthetic Field. New Technology and Breakthroughs in Baseball and Softball Construction

  • Imagining a Zero Waste Future

  • Sports Fencing Requirements & Construction

  • Pickleball Trends (How to Educate Facilities) Noise, Surface Types, Equipment Innovation (Balls, Paddles, Nets, Lighting)

  • Track Surface Testing

  • Multi-Use Design Considerations

  • Testing Means & Methods/Mix Designs by Location/Color Coating 101/Surfacing Techniques

  • Problems and Challenges with Track Installation Scheduling

In addition, the keynote address will be presented by Bruce Tulgan, founder and CEO of Rainmaker Thinking, Inc., a management research and training firm, as well as Rainmaker Learning, an online training resource. Tulgan will additionally be presenting sessions in the Management track of the Technical Meeting.

One of the more popular aspects of the Technical Meeting is the exhibit hall, with new and emerging technologies as well as current equipment, can be found. The exhibit hall will be the site of receptions, breaks, and some meals, allowing for maximum exposure to vendors.

The Technical Meeting also includes extensive information on the Association, including updates from the Board of Directors, meetings of committees and divisions, and of course, the very popular announcement of honorees of the ASBA’s Awards of Excellence program. Awards are presented in various categories: Tennis Courts, Running Tracks, Sports Fields, Pickleball Facilities, and Track & Field Facilities. Within some categories, there are divisions; for example, the Sports Field category recognizes single- and multiple-field facilities.

Additional activities, including the Golf outing, Tennis and Pickleball Tournaments, and the Women of ASBA gatherings, will also be offered.
