Turface Leaders Earns Industry Certification

BUFFALO GROVE, IL. – Turface Athletics, a leader in sports field construction and maintenance, is pleased to announce that one of the company’s sports field market development managers, Chris Ball, has received his Certified Sports Field Manager (CSFM) certification by the Sports Turf Managers Association (STMA). Ball joins an exclusive group of 266 individuals who are recognized with this title globally. This program, developed and managed by the STMA signifies those industry professionals who have exceeded the requirements of job performance and demonstrated a superior level of competence.

“This certification reaffirms the high level of professional expertise, integrity and leadership that Chris brings to our team of experienced professionals — the Turface Grounds Crew,” said Joe Betulius, vice president of marketing for Turface Athletics. “As a team that’s dedicated to the education and development of the field maintenance industry, Chris will continue to help drive superior surfaces in terms of playability and safety.”

Ball is the second Turface Grounds Crew team member to earn his CSFM, following Josh Marden CSFM, another Sports Field Market Development Manager at Turface Athletics. As seasoned educators of field maintenance products and techniques, Ball and Marden help customers with field renovations, daily maintenance and construction projects, including the design and installation of wall padding, windscreens and safety netting. In addition, they serve as a dependable resource for those challenged with turfgrass related issues.

“To have Chris on our team means dependable support and superior education for groundskeepers, coaches and industry partners,” said Jason Lovell, vice president of sports field business development at Turface Athletics.

Prior to Turface Athletics, Ball was the director of sport turf management for three minor league ballclubs including the Harrisburg Senators (AA Montreal Expos), the Myrtle Beach Pelicans (Advanced A Atlanta Braves) and the Gwinnett Braves (AAA Atlanta Braves). His highly-decorated minor league baseball career includes a record five consecutive Carolina League Field of the Year awards spanning 2006 to 2010 with the Myrtle Beach Pelicans. Ball also earned a Class A Sports Turf Manager of the Year award in both 2007 and 2010, and in 2013 he was named both the International League Sports Turf Manager of the Year and the STMA Triple-A Sports Turf Manager of the Year.

“The CSFM designation means a lot to me personally and professionally,” said Ball. “I feel a great sense of achievement to be in the company of other distinguished sports field managers that have this exclusive accreditation.”
