John Deere Golf Products Win AE50 Award

Cary, N.C.—The American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers (ASABE) awarded John Deere’s 7400A TerrainCut Trim and Surrounds Mower and 8800A TerrainCut Rough Mower with an AE50 Award. AE50 is a celebration of the year’s most innovative designs in engineering products, as chosen by a panel of international engineering experts.

The 7400A and 8800A TerrainCut mowers feature the new TechControl display to enable more precise control of results, LoadMatch to maintain cut quality in long, lush conditions, internal wet-disk brakes, and eHydro traction pumps for superior hill-climbing.

Great Play Giveaway Winner Announced             

Congratulations to Rachel Johnson from the town of Shallotte, N.C.—the winner of the Great Play Giveaway presented by Parks & Rec Business and Camp Business magazines! The Town of Shallotte will receive a brand-new Intensity playground from BCI Burke valued at almost $15,000!

The playground includes all new play events from Burke’s Intensity fitness product line, which is designed to challenge and exercise children’s bodies while they play. The town will have the opportunity to customize the playground with color and create a space that enhances the community and gets kids and families outdoors, exercising and having fun!

“Playgrounds and parks can play an important role in providing a space for families to gather and get much-needed time outdoors,” said Michael Phelan, president and CEO of BCI Burke Company. “We are so happy to be able to partner with Northstar Publishing, Inc. and provide a deserving community with a playground that will provide hours of enjoyment,” Phelan added.

“I truly can't express how thankful we are here at the Town of Shallotte and this couldn't have come at a better time for us! We've been trying to figure out how we were going to fund the playground in our new 10-acre Mulberry Park to the extent we wanted and winning this contest helps us create our dream playspace,” said Johnson, Parks & Recreation and Business Promotional Coordinator.

Restroom Ready For Delivery        

After being built in their Marble Falls, Texas plant, a CorWorth /Restroom Facilities Ltd. prefabricated restroom was loaded onto a truck and shipped fully assembled to its destination at Lakeside Park in Highland Village, Texas. Upon arrival, the building was set in by crane onto a prepared pad, and in a matter of 3 to 5 days, it was ready for the public to enjoy.

Profile Products Employees Earn Certification Designation

Buffalo Grove, Ill.—Profile Products announce that Adam Dibble and Matt Welch recently achieved the designation as a Certified Erosion, Sediment, and Storm Water Inspector (CESSWI). Dibble is a senior marketing manager for Profile Products and Welch is a technical services associate.

The CESSWI certification recognizes individuals who have proven they are technically qualified to provide consistent and competent site inspections of erosion, sediment, and storm water management practices for compliance with appropriate local, state-wide and national laws, and regulations on permitted construction sites.

Those with CESSWI certification have an increased credibility on a job site as individuals who have demonstrated the necessary technical ability and experience to perform erosion, sediment, and storm water inspections.

The CESSWI program is administered by EnviroCert International Inc., which offers internationally recognized professional certifications, which can be earned by demonstrating certain qualifications based on a combination of education and experience, and passing an exam. These certifications cover the regulations, design, and inspection for the construction, municipal, storm water modeling and hydrology, and multi-sector/industrial fields.

Field Notes

Bandit Industries recently completed the forth plant expansion in nine months to keep up with increasing demand for its equipment. All the plant expansions add space for additional employees and increasing production at the company’s Mid-Michigan facility.

BSN SPORTS, a direct marketer and distributor of sporting goods to the school and league markets, has acquired Em-Roe Sporting Goods based in Indianapolis, Ind. 

Haws Corporation, a designer and manufacturer of drinking fountains, announces several new hires and promotions: Brian Clark—Director of Strategic Channel Partners; Matt De Shon—Brita Program Sales Manager; Sam Sarver—General Manager of Haws North American Core Business

BCI Burke, a manufacturer of commercial playground, park and recreation equipment, hired Douglas Pietrowski as Chief Financial Officer.  In his new role, Pietrowski will oversee the accounting, information technology and human resource functions.

Redexim North America, based in Valley Park, Mo., hired Larry Dudley of Wildwood, Mo., as the new National Technical Manager where he will field technical inquiries and manage the machine service department.

BioSafe Systems announces Jeff Rich will take over the Texas territory for BioSafe Systems T&O sales team. He has been with BioSafe since 2012 working in Florida and the Gulf States.

Country Clipper mowers has launched a new website at countryclipper.com. It has extensive content including a compare mowers section that allows users the ability to evaluate product specifications side-by-side.

St. Charles Park District Welcomes New Aquatic Supervisor

St. Charles Park District in St. Charles, Ill., welcomed Jason Khuen as the new Aquatics & Youth Programs Supervisor responsible for Otter Cove Aquatic Park operations and contracted youth recreation programs.

Previously, Jason was employed as an Aquatics Supervisor at the Lemont Park District and worked as a part-time manager for both Mundelein and Gurnee Park Districts. He is the Committee Chairperson for the Illinois Parks & Recreation Association’s Lifeguard Games

He is a graduate from Illinois State University with a degree in Parks and Recreation. He is a Certified Park & Recreation Professional and has his American Sport Education Program Certification.

Idaho Golf Superintendent Wins Innovation Award

Charlotte, N.C.—Jacobsen congratulates Superintendent Gerald Flaherty, CGSA and Golf Professional Jamie Sharp from The Valley Club in Hailey, Idaho for winning the first-annual Excellence in Innovation Award presented by Turf Republic.

This award aims to recognize men and women in the turf industry who are using innovative new ideas to save time, reduce costs, and create a better experience for players. The pair won it for their creation of the TaskTracker, a web-based application for tracking labor costs.

This web-based application stores and retrieves labor data from all areas of turf maintenance including bunker maintenance, green speed, hand-watering fairways and even tennis court maintenance. In addition to recording data, the application can provide financial analysis and reports.

Within the first year of the launch, the TaskTracker has grown to over 150 users worldwide. Users can adapt the application to their specific needs, which makes it a truly global application for superintendents.

ECHO and Shindaiwa Get Gold Again

Chicago, Ill.—North American dealers have again ranked ECHO and Shindaiwa at Gold Level Status in The North American Equipment Dealers Association’s (NAEDA) annual Manufacturer Relations Survey.

The Gold Level Award recognizes those manufacturers who have achieved exceptionally high dealer ratings in categories such as product quality, technical support, parts availability, marketing & advertising support, etc. The level is determined from the results of dealer evaluation data collected from the annual survey. The survey asks dealers to evaluate the companies whose products they sell in key areas correlated to a dealer’s operational model.

NAEDA is one of the longest running trade associations in North America. It is affiliated with 15 state, regional and provincial associations made up of member dealers in their areas.

African-Themed Building A Roaring Success

Romtec worked with French & Parrello, a landscape architecture firm in Essex Country, N.J., to design and supply an African-themed building for their miniGOLF Safari feature at the South Mountain Recreational Complex of Turtle Back Zoo. The overall project included a new miniature golf course with a safari theme including hazards in the form of crocodiles, hippos, and gorillas. Romtec designed and supplied a building with a dome-shaped roof, straw thatch roofing materials, hand-peeled logs bound with rope, and rustic cedar board and batten wood siding. The building also included single-user men’s and women’s ADA restrooms, a sizable concession area, and a large storage room.

Pentair Offers Online Cost Calculator

Pentair Commercial now offers an online “Cost-Calculator” designed to give commercial aquatic professionals the ability to obtain estimated operational costs associated with running a facility’s swimming pool equipment. Pentair created the calculators for the products that use the largest amount of electricity and will make the biggest savings impact for a facility that is looking to reduce its operating costs—such as installing energy-efficient LED lighting or upgrading to eco-friendly variable frequency pumps and drives. The calculator asks for key data such as pool size, number of operational days a year, cost of electricity, turnover times and flow rate—making cost savings specific to each facility with calculations both for medium and long-term cost savings.
