Pine Halls Wins Big At Brick In Architecture Awards

WINSTON-SALEM – Pine Hall Brick Company, the largest manufacturer of clay pavers in the United States, was well-represented in the Brick In Architecture Awards from the Brick Industry Association (BIA), a national trade group.

Products from Pine Hall Brick Company were chosen for projects that won two Best In Class, one Gold and one Bronze Award, BIA announced.

The competition honors the best in brick design across North America. This year, the competition was especially intense, with the entry of more than 150 projects, which were

reviewed by an independent panel of judges. Established in 1989, the 40 winners in this 25 th anniversary year span 22 states and Canada, according to the BIA.

The projects in which Pine Hall Brick Company products were chosen were diverse both in location and in subject matter. The awards came for installations that are in Indiana, Virginia, Kentucky and New Jersey – and in a variety of projects in which genuine clay products are especially well-suited, from a fire station to a city plaza to a park and finally to a street.

“Each of these projects benefits, in its own way, from a product that is environmentally sound,” said Walt Steele, paver business manager for Pine Hall Brick Company. “Clay bricks and pavers are made of readily available materials – clay and water. They last virtually forever and they have an aesthetic quality that is unmatched.”

Ray Leonhard, BIA’s president and CEO, agreed.

“Fired clay brick offers the aesthetic flexibility to match the architect’s imagination and desires, along with sustainable design, unsurpassed durability and many benefits from its physical properties,” said Leonhard.

The BIA said that the Best In Class winners will receive a plaque commemorating the 2014 Brick in Architecture Awards. They will also be featured in the December 2014 issue of Brick in Architecture, which will be included as an insert in a forthcoming issue of Architect Magazine . Gold, Silver, and Bronze winners will be listed there as well and will receive a certificate of achievement for their accomplishments.
