BALTIMORE----Mahan Rykiel Associates, Inc. (MRA), a Baltimore-based landscape architecture, urban design and planning firm, announced that Justin Park, Michael Humes, Megan Griffith have joined their staff and Chunxiao Wang, Wilson Lee and Alexandria Odom are interning for the summer.
Landscape Designer, Justin Park, joined the MRA staff in April, and his personal interest in landscape architecture centers on sustainability and originates from his background in environmental science. The confluence of art, science and the outdoors continually drives his passion to produce great design. Justin received a B.S. in Landscape Architecture from Virginia Polytechnic Institute. He has worked with both residential and commercial projects and joins our Mixed Use and Hospitality Studio.
Michael Humes is 2014 Graduate of The Pennsylvania State University and recipient of the 2010, 2011 and 2013 “Excellence in the Study of Landscape Architecture” Award. Michael was a summer intern at Mahan Rykiel Associates in 2013 and during this internship he conducted research on the value of landscape architects to the
development of residential apartments. He joins our Mixed Use and Hospitality Studio.
Megan Griffith will be joining our Planning Studio. With a specialization in Urban Design and Sustainable Cities, Megan earned her Masters of City and Regional Planning from Morgan State University, where she was also the recipient of the 2014 AICP Outstanding Student Award. Prior to her graduate studies, Megan earned her B.F.A. in Environmental Design from the Maryland Institute College of Art. She has benefited from a number of diverse professional experiences, including time spent as a designer for an architecture and urban design firm and an internship with a planning consultant and with the Baltimore County Office of Planning. Most recently, she completed an AmeriCorps term of service with the Office of Sustainability in the Baltimore City Department of Planning.
Chunxiao Wang is a visiting graduate student from The Pennsylvania State University. She graduated from Beijing Forestry University with a degree in landscape architecture in 2010. Her current research focuses on sustainable stormwater management and ecological infrastructure. She used to work on various projects at the Atelier DYJG in Beijing, ranging from urban design to garden design.
Wilson Lee is a rising senior studying landscape architecture at The Pennsylvania State University with an interest in urban design through the lens of sustainability. During his studies, he enjoys research utilizing geographic information systems to inform the conceptual design phase. At Penn State, he has been awarded the “Excellence in Landscape Architecture” Award as well as the Outstanding Leadership and Service Award. He plans on studying a semester in Germany to observe sustainable practices.
Alexandra Odom is a rising junior at Grinnell College in Iowa with a major in history, specializing in American history, world history, and American government. She has also worked on research projects with the University of Maryland, Baltimore. Alexandra is interested in the environmental history of various landscapes and how it can inform design. This past spring Alexandra was chosen as one of Grinnell’s three Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellows. She will be assisting with research and administrative tasks during her internship.
