Joan Floura To Talk About Park Design

As part of Baltimore Green Works’ 9th Annual Green Week, registered landscape architect and LEED accredited professional Joan Floura of Baltimore-based Floura Teeter Landscape Architects (FTLA) will present an hour-long session on best practices in park design.

The session will begin at noon on April 25 at the University of Maryland, Baltimore BioPark. The event will be held at the FTLA-designed pocket park at 829 West Baltimore Street on the UMB BioPark campus.

Together with Wallace Montgomery’s Glenn Marschke, PE, Floura will present "Environmental Site Design--What Does it Mean for Our Parks?"

The goal of the program is to educate residents, civic leaders and peers on best practices in applying environmental site design principles to park settings. The program will include an overview of the 2007 Stormwater Management Act and Environmental Site Design (ESD) and will address the challenges and opportunities presented by these technical requirements.

The open-air presentation is open to the public, who can enjoy light refreshments provided or bring a picnic lunch while learning more about these important issues facing new and existing parks throughout Baltimore.

In case of inclement weather, the presentation will be held at FTLA’s offices at 306 W. Franklin Street, Suite 103, Baltimore, MD.

“While parks are inherently eco-friendly, the latest design trends and regulations go even further to ensure maximum water conservation and stormwater management. By offering this program, Glenn and I look forward to sharing some of these trends with the public as well as our colleagues in the design industry,” says Floura.

Baltimore Green Works’ 9th Annual Green Week is April 21-28 and features a week-long series of programs that promote environmental awareness and best sustainable practices in and around Baltimore.
