Oklahoma State University Releases Two New Bermudagrasses

Oklahoma State University has developed and released two new bermudagrass varieties--Northbridge and Latitude 36. Both grasses are sterile hybrids with exceptional cold tolerance. They are good choices for home lawns, parks and golf/sports applications from the southern United States to areas north of the transition zone. Sod Solutions Inc. will be the licensing and marketing agent. The grasses should be commercially available in 2012.

Rebate Program Continues

Profile Products LLC is continuing the “Spray it, Don’t Lay It” rebate program to encourage contractors to convert from a rolled erosion-control blanket to a Profile hydraulic erosion control product. Contractors can earn up to $122.50 per acre, or $1,540 per truckload, for participation in the program. Eligible erosion control solutions include Terra-Matrix SMM, EcoMatrix SSM, Hydro-Blanket BFM, EcoAegis BFM, Flexterra HP-FGM and CocoFlex ET-FGM. Synthetic Turf Installation At Youngstown State University

St. Louis’ Citygarden Wins Award

Citygarden, a 2.9-acre richly landscaped sculpture garden and park that has altered the perception of St. Louis’ downtown and catalyzed nearby development, has received national recognition as the 2011 winner of the Urban Land Institute’s Amanda Burden Urban Open Space Award. The award was based on a competition to recognize an outstanding example of a well-used public open space that has spurred regeneration and the transformation of the surrounding community. Citygarden received a $10,000 cash prize.

Becker Underwood’s Solar Panel Array Largest In St. Joseph, Mo.

With the installation of 84 solar panels on its facility in St. Joseph, Mo., Becker Underwood Inc. now has the largest private solar panel array in the city. The solar panels will reduce the facility’s carbon dioxide emissions by 789 tons over 25 years, and produce renewable energy for the site. The project was completed as part of Becker Underwood’s overall sustainability strategy to protect and reduce the company’s impact on the environment, as well as to reduce its exposure to increasing energy prices.

DINOFLEX Recycling Program Reaches 10th Year

DINOFLEX Group LP, manufacturer of recycled rubber surfaces, is celebrating the 10th year of its ReGrind Program. Since 2002, DINOFLEX has been collecting not only consumer building waste from construction projects, but also post-manufacturing waste from the manufacturing of indoor flooring. This material is then sent through the ReGrind Program and used in different products. ValleyCrest Announces Leadership Team

ValleyCrest Landscape Companies, the largest integrated landscape services company in the United States, recently promoted Andrew J. Mandell to Chief Executive Officer of ValleyCrest Landscape Development, its construction division. Mandell previously served nine years as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of ValleyCrest Landscape Companies.

Richard Wolff has been named to succeed Mandell as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer.

Tom Donnelly, who remains President of the Development Division, will hold primary responsibility for overall sales, as well as building and strengthening new and existing national customer relationships.

Aquionics Names Aquatics Sales Engineer

UV expert Aquionics has appointed Bob Banker to Aquatics Sales Engineer for the western United States where he will educate potential customers on the cost savings and health benefits of UV disinfection for competitive, leisure and wellness pools, spas and splash pads. Banker joins Aquionics after 28 years with Counsilman-Hunsaker (St. Louis, Mo.), an aquatic engineering firm, where he was Project Manager.
