Sprinturf Installs More Than 1 Million Square Feet Of Turf
New York, NY--Eleven new Sprinturf athletic fields on New York City’s Randall’s Island, part of the largest project aimed at renovating athletic fields in the United States, are already getting rave reviews. Sprinturf is a provider of synthetic turf systems. The Randall’s Island fields featuring Sprinturf’s Ultrablade DF synthetic turf system with a CoolFill infill system, cover 1.1 million square feet.
The undertaking, led by the Randall’s Island Sports Foundation and the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation, includes the renovation of more than 65 athletic fields on the island. New York Studies Validate Safety of Synthetic Turf
New York, NY--In response to the public’s desire for more scientific data, the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation and New York State Department of Health released a new study on May 29 which validated the safety of synthetic turf fields with crumb rubber infill. Missouri Parks & Recreation Mourns A Member
On Friday, June 5, 2009, Elizabeth (Liz) Lucas Gilbert passed away after a brief illness. She was recently inducted into the inaugural class of the Missouri Recreation and Parks Hall of Fame, and was instrumental in creating and leading the St Louis Association for Retarded Citizens; bringing joy and strength to many children and their families over the years. Gilbert will be greatly missed by her family and many, many friends. Her contributions to the parks and recreation profession were unforgettable.
Zamboni Celebrates 60th Anniversary
Paramount, Calif.--Frank J. Zamboni & Co., Inc. announce that the company is celebrating its 60th anniversary in 2009. In 1940, Frank Zamboni, his brother and a cousin opened the Iceland skating rink in Paramount, Calif. In a story about commercial swimming pools, RenoSys—a pool renovation company—was featured in an NBC Nightly News clip called “Making a Difference.” Brian Williams introduced the piece about a $43,000 two-pool renovation for the city of Alexandria, Ind. that was made possible by donations from the community.
