It’s Summer, Baby!

It was a long, long winter here in Idaho which meant the spring mud season was longer, too. More snow. More run-off. More ice on the lake.

But, as it always does, spring slowly faded away and summer nudged into view. The lake thawed—replacing ice with sparkling blue water rippling in the wind. The grass turned green. And the trails and playgrounds and sports fields in all the local parks sprang to life. Kids of all ages went from walking the plowed paths at the municipal golf course to hiking in the woods and playing catch on the ball field. Hanging plants started showing up on front porches and on the light poles in town.

Walking into work, I marveled once again at this time-worn changeover—and noted how it doesn’t happen on its own. For the last few weeks of spring, I’d walked past a park crew hard at work raking up the snow mold and prepping the grass for a quick start. I saw irrigation lines being blown out and turned on. Fresh paint was showing up on playgrounds, shelters, and roadways. The well-worn park crew dance was back in action.

For some, this start of the summer work is already done, having been completed weeks or even months ago while others raced to finish their to-do list before the ever-magical Memorial Day weekend kick off.

To help you make this summer the best one yet, we’ve put together another awesome issue—chock-full of tidbits provided by park folks all over the country. I hope you like it. We sure loved putting it together.

After you give a read, take a moment to get outside and enjoy the results of all your hard work because it’s summer, baby!

Till next month…
