Surface America Marks 25 Years
Williamsville, NY – Jim Dobmeier founded Surface America, which provides the complete installation of recreational and athletic surfacing, as a subsidiary of Pennsylvania-based Ecore International in 1993. The Williamsville, N.Y.-based company marks 25 years in business as a leading installer of playground, gymnasium and aquatic surfacing.
Since its inception, the company has completed more than 16,000 playground projects across the United States, providing project management, construction services, surfacing installation, supervision and warranty services. The composition recycled playground surfaces are mixed and poured on site and available in a variety of colors and designs and can feature graphics and logos.

Notable playground projects include installations at Six Flags, Disney World, Disney Land, Universal Studios, Miracle League, Chicago Public Schools, and numerous public and private schools, parks and recreation centers across the country. Aquatic installations include several prominent Las Vegas hotels including the Cosmopolitan, Aria and Green Valley Ranch.
The company’s leading product for playground surfacing, PlayBound™ Poured-in-Place, is a two-layer system consisting of a basemat of 100% post-consumer recycled SBR (Styrene Butadiene Rubber) and polyurethane, and a top surface consisting of recycled post-industrial EPDM (Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer) rubber and polyurethane. Surface America uses an industry-leading percentage of material in its top surface, significantly increasing the product’s life expectancy.
