Perkins+Will Minneapolis Expands

MINNEAPOLIS— Per kins+Will is proud to announce that Ana Nelson, RLA, ASLA and John D. Slack, RLA, ASLA, have joined the firm to assist in advancing its growing Urban Design and Landscape Architecture practice.

With decades of combined professional experience throughout the Midwest, Ana and John bring a wide variety and scales of planning and design expertise to the firm. Their signature projects include parks, open space and recreation plans, urban redevelopment, Transit Oriented Development, bicycle and pedestrian design, brownfield redevelopment, green infrastructure, complete streets, sustainable sites, and streetscapes. Working locally and nationally, they have completed numerous master plans and site implementation projects.

Ana is a trained architect from Mexico and registered landscape architect in Minnesota with more than 14 years of experience. Her unique background and dual degrees as a licensed landscape architect and trained architect make her especially talented at integrating both site and building issues. Prior to joining Perkins+Will, Ana was senior landscape architect/urban designer at SEH, Inc. in Saint Paul, Minn.

John is a registered landscape architect in four Midwestern states, including North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, and Wisconsin, and has been practicing for 19 years. He has held many city and neighborhood board positions and is currently serving as the mayor’s designee to the Minneapolis Planning Commission. Prior to joining Perkins+Will, John was senior landscape architect/urban designer at STANTEC in Saint Paul, Minn.

In their new roles, John and Ana will be instrumental in leading community-based projects through public participation to develop context-sensitive visions that promote vibrant gathering places. Their ability to engage stakeholders along with their experience working with local municipalities will be especially integral to continuing the firm’s success as a competitive team for planning regional corridors.

“We are thrilled to have Ana and John join Perkins+Will as design leaders in our Urban Design and Landscape Architecture studio,” said Dave Diamond, AIA, principal and design director with Perkins+Will Minneapolis. “Their community-centered practice has shaped progressive park designs, inspired implementable urban visions, and built a deep transit-oriented development expertise. They will connect their passion for strong, local community engagement with Perkins+Will’s national leadership in resiliency, sustainability and the development of a vibrant public realm.”

Perkins+Will Minneapolis began developing its Urban Design and Landscape Architecture practice in 2006, when Krisan Osterby was hired to spearhead planning and design for campuses. Since then, the practice has grown dramatically, serving more than 75 corporate, healthcare and university campus planning and landscape architecture clients across 20 states and around the world.

In 2012, Perkins+Will Minneapolis made a commitment to expand its urban design practice locally and in the region. The addition of Ana and John brings this group to five dedicated Urban Design and Landscape Architecture personnel and five additional dual-degree support staff.
