Round Rock PRD Wins Awards
The City of Round Rock Parks and Recreation Department received two awards from the Texas Recreation and Park Society (TRAPS): the Gold Medal Award and the Park Development Innovations Award.

The department was honored at the 2013 TRAPS Institute & EXPO Annual Awards Dinner March 7 at the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center in Lubbock.
The Gold Medal Award recognizes agencies, based on population, who have met high standards and specific criteria. The city of Round Rock won in the Class II category, for cities with a population of 100,001 to 250,000. This means the Round Rock Parks and Recreation Department is considered one of the best agencies in the state of Texas.
The Gold Medal Award was given to Round Rock in recognition of the agency’s ability to meet the challenge of its diverse community through listening to citizens and customers. The department's long-range planning is guided by “Game Plan 2020: Building an Active Community,” a plan that was adopted in June 2009 and was recently updated.
The city has also incorporated a Trails Master Plan. The parks department was recognized for influencing the lives of citizens through long-range planning, acquisition of land for parks, maintenance, and more.
The Park Development Innovations Award honors the city’s Play for All Abilities Park. The Park Development Innovations Award recognizes a park development process that is developed and completed by department staff.
Completed with the aid of in-kind donations, grants, and sponsorships, the Play for All Abilities Park has surpassed all expectations and has provided Round Rock and surrounding communities with a barrier-free place to play. The parks department has delivered 51,000 square feet of outdoor fun for children of ALL abilities.
The Texas Recreation and Park Society is a nonprofit 501(c)3 educational and professional organization committed to advancing the field of parks, recreation, and leisure services in Texas. There are approximately 2,000 professional and citizen-advocate members of the Texas Recreation and Park Society.
