National Mall Design Competition

The Trust for the National Mall has announced a three-stage competition for designs to rebuild and refurbish the National Mall.

The 700-acre park -- the most visited national park in the United States -- is suffering from overuse.

New designs are being sought for three sections of the mall: Union Square, the Washington Monument Grounds at Sylvan Theater, and Constitution Gardens.

A jury will select lead designers and design teams for each of the three projects.

Registration for the competition is due by Oct. 8, and lead designers must submit portfolios by Oct. 13.
